Kids Kidney Research

Funding for new project

Kids Kidney Research is delighted to announce that the Garfield Weston Foundation has agreed to co fund an exciting new research project, entitled Clinical and Molecular Aspects of Nephrotic Syndrome, and which falls into two distinct parts.

Firstly, a specialized transition clinic will be created for young nephrotic syndrome patients at the Royal Free Hospital.  Nephrotic syndrome in childhood is very different compared to that experienced by adults, when steroid resistance is much more common.  The clinic will smooth the transition of patients into adult care and facilitate the transfer of knowledge about the care of such difficult patients between the paediatric and adult nephrologists.

In addition, the aim is to enhance understanding of the molecular basis of nephrotic syndrome. A system of comprehensive genetic screening for known genes associated with nephrotic syndrome will be developed, as identification of mutations in them directly informs clinical management.

Full details of the project can be found on our Recent Research Projects page.

Kids Kidney Research is very grateful to the Garfield Weston Foundation for their support of this important new project.
