As you bike it..... | |
Phil Supple and a group of his friends are cycling from Stratford-upon-Avon to Holland to raise money for Kids Kidney Research. On Thursday June 11th 8 pairs of legs will leave The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford, and together with 4 pairs from London, will meet in Harwich on the evening of Friday 12th June to catch the overnight ferry to Hoek van Holland. Destination: Amsterdam. The plan is to have a beer together around sunset on Saturday 13th June having ridden 369km in three days with generous support from friends, colleagues and family. Phil Supple and Carol Atkinson's eldest son David was diagnosed with childhood nephrotic syndrome – a rare kidney disease thought to be related to the action of the immune system on kidney function. This means that his kidneys leak proteins from his bloodstream into his urine, which has a number of quite serious effects if left untreated. Carol looks after David, managing his medication and the hospital, so Phil decided that his bit should be to raise some money Now - Phil likes bicycles, and luckily, earlier this year, a colleague at the Royal Shakespeare Company (Vince Herbert the Head of Lighting) in the process of trying to recapture past glories was putting together a cycling event from Stratford-upon-Avon to Amsterdam, and Phil got involved. Bryan Raven - Managing Director of White Light in London (a lighting company they both regularly work with) weighed in with fantastic organisation, logistical support and some pairs of legs prepared to do the distance. Pooling resources, As You Bike It was born. Kids Kidney Research are very grateful to Phil, Carol, Vince, Bryan and everyone else involved in this epic bike ride. If you would like to sponsor them, please visit their Justgiving page.
Thank you and Good Luck!!
