Kids Kidney Research is delighted to announce that it has agreed to fund six new research projects. We received a significant number of applications this year and we are very grateful to our Medical Advisory Panel for their commitment and support to Kids Kidney Research. The Trustees rely on their opinions when making funding decisions and we are lucky to have such a dedicated team. This year we will be funding the following projects at research institutions throughout the UK - National study of membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis - a multi centre project being coordinated from Birmingham Children's Hospital and the Wellcome CRF University Hospital in Birmingham
- Autoantibodies to complement regulators and activators in atypical hus at the Institute of Human Genetics in Newcastle
- Defining kidney expression of Teashirt genes in health, injury and regeneration at the University of Manchester
The remaining projects will be undertaken at the Institute of Child Health/Great Ormond Street Hospital and include: - Can renal functional measurements based on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) detect renal damage following kidney transplantation in children?
- Human amniotic fluid cells – novel potential renal progenitors
- Evolution of mineral and bone disorder in early CKD: the role of FGF23 and vitamin D (this project is being co funded by Kids Kidney Research andKidney Research UK)
