Kids Kidney Research

Five new research projects are funded

Kids Kidney Research is delighted to announce that it has agreed to fund five new research projects this year.  Choosing which projects to fund was extremely difficult, as the quality and number of applications was high.  Our Medical Advisory Panel have worked extremely hard over the last few months, reviewing all of the projects in detail and the Trustees of Kids Kidney Research are very pleased to announce that we have chosen to fund the following projects:

  • Nephronophthisis: molecular mechanisms, disease models and therapy
  • Teaching parents to become home-based care-givers of children’s long-term kidney conditions: a mixed methods study in all UK Children’s Kidney Units
  • The role of the podocyte in the pathogenesis of diarrhoea associated with Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome
  • PhD studentship: Targeting blood vessels to prevent autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease.
  • Comprehensive genetic screening of patients with renal malformations: a pilot study

The projects, which are based at the Institute of Child Health in London, Bristol University, Manchester University and The Institute of Human Genetics in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, will all start in September 2009.  Please visit our Recent Resarch Projects page for more details of each project.
