Kids Kidney Research

Kids Kidney Research

Renal Unit, GOSH
Aisha with Senior Staff Nurse, Sandra

Kidney disease is debilitating at any time. When it involves babies and children, families suffer too. It can be devastating for everybody concerned.

10% of children with renal failure and 1% of all babies born in the UK suffer from vesicoureteric reflux, a condition where infected urine can pass from the bladder back into the kidneys, thereby permanently damaging them.

"There is no cure for kidney disease. We need to understand why kidney and urinary tract diseases occur in children. And we need to improve the diagnosis and treatment of these, sometimes life-threatening, conditions."
Professor Adrian Woolf
Institute of Child Health / Great Ormond Street Hospital
